Dean Whitehead: Set to be offered an extension to his current deal

Whitehead has spent the past four years at the Britannia Stadium, clocking up over 150 appearances for the Potters along the way.

He has found Premier League starts hard to come by this season - making just eight so far - but remains an important part of the senior set-up.

Pulis acknowledges that and would like to see the 31-year-old commit his future to the club, with Whitehead's current deal set to expire in the summer.

"He is one of those that the closer we get to the end of the season we will hopefully discuss things," Pulis told The Sentinel.

The Stoke boss has also been discussing the future of Matthew Upson, who has been sent on loan to Championship promotion hopefuls Brighton.

Pulis concedes that the 33-year-old no longer figures in his plans and will not be offered an extension to a contract which is due to run until the end of the season.

He added: "Matty is at Brighton to get himself a contract.

"He hasn't played as much for us as he would have wanted, but he has been brilliant for us."
