Wenger rubbishes deal report

Arsene Wenger says reports he is in line for a contract extension at Arsenal are "completely wrong" and designed to make mischief.

Stories in Monday's newspapers suggested a deal until 2016 would soon be on the table despite growing dissatisfaction among some supporters with the club's lack of trophies.

The Arsenal manager's current contract expires in 2014 and he has consistently said the time is not right to discuss a new one.

Asked directly about the story ahead of Tuesday's game against Bayern Munich, a clearly irritated Wenger said: "That is the wrong information.

"I've worked for 16 years in England and I think I deserve a bit more credit than wrong information with only one intention - to harm.

"If it's good information that comes from nowhere, it's alright. But this is the wrong information that comes from nowhere. It's completely wrong."

Wenger waited until the final year of his contract before signing his current deal in August 2010.

Asked about his long-term plans back in September the Frenchman, whose last trophy was the FA Cup in 2005, said: "I'm not in the mood to think about it.

"I will assess my own performances and then make a decision. If I don't do well, I have to consider my future."

I think he's made a fool of himself here i'm afraid.

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.

afa has to be favourite for the Everton job now, surely :) He'll realise his ambition to live and work on Merseyside again, get the best out of whoever plays for them, maybe win some cups and be thoroughly loathed by the toffee fans. What's not to like? Go ead, Ken, gimajob!

hat is arguably the least inspiring England I have ever seen. There is not a single name in that list that makes me think I might actually want to watch this team. Not a one.
