Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists he never expected an immediate improvement this season but has witnessed some progress in the team.

I did not know that Liverpool FC with such a strong and established pedigree are still learning to play better and win. All this talk about improving is a lot of bulls and I do not see any improvements at all compared to the previous seasons.

I'm an intelligent person. I went to uni, got a couple of degrees. I work in a mentally demanding career, and am one of the best in my country at what I do. I find Brendan Rodgers thoughtful and insightful when he speaks, and appreciate the fact that he doesn't follow the 'cut-and-paste' style of interview answering that many managers adopt. You may disagree with what he says at times - but most disagreement generally seems to come from opposition supporters who are simply keen to find any way to stick the boot in, or find fault. I'm no 'fan-boy', but I am a Rodgers fan-in-the-making. At this stage - much like a promising young player - he has shown signs of quality, while also needing time to develop further.

@pa___ul - The problem is that the stuff he comes out with actually is complete nonsense and it does make him sound like David Brent. If this was a manager at another club I reckon Liverpool fans would be saying the exact same things as the rest of us. It's gibberish.

The old line about controlling games, missing chances, individuals mistakes. The speech of losers, basically. Throughout the ages, teams that don't achieve their aims trot out the same excuses. The fact is that any motivated, organised and determined team has a chance against this team. The play is one paced a lot of the time and many of the players don't have the qualities needed to execute the style of play. The lack of physical presence in key areas is another problem. The patient, possession game is all well and good when you go a goal up, but there is a reason why the team is so poor when they go a go down. The inability to up the tempo when required. It'd be nice to see the team get a few players in the box and put in a cross from time to time. Without taking Carroll back, although he is still superior to Borini, an attacker with physical presence should be in the squad when you have Coutinhos, Sterlings and Downings in the squad, all able to put a decent ball into the box. And, before people start, Downing's performances have been fine for a while now.

@ricky villa, I see what you're saying but surely we're just best to hear the point he's making rather than the words he's using. As Mulder said, it could well be pressure from the board to be seen to be a more professional spokesman that Kenny was. I'm not at all bothered by how he makes a point to the press but these divs who comment on here with the classic 'oh he just talks crap' and 'it's David Brent' soundbites really do my head in. Is it too much to ask people to think for themselves?

Football coverage can be so tedious in this country, everyone's got to be turned into a 2 dimensional cut out with easily attached label for the hard of thinking. Opinions are boxed up and sold in multi-packs to morons, and the height of analysis is Alan "say-what-you-see, say-what-you-see" Shearer. None of this particularly bothers me, its just another universal source of entertainment and escapism that has been hunted down and killed by people who make money from entertainment, rather than make entertainment from entertainment, and who's only ambition is for pennies from a drunk. Tawdry.

@fouloleron - How is it winding anyone up you clart? People are commenting on what a David Brentalike it is. I can't even understand an angle which would wind up Tottenham fans. @Pa___ul I think its some of the language he uses and some of the daft things he says. "A person can live many days without water, but he cannot live a second without hope", for example. I actually think Liverpool have played some very good football this year and with less profligacy in front of goal, would be right up there...but being less profligate isn't something that can be fixed overnight. Spurs regularly have 20-30 shots a game too and never seem to smash anyone. Where Liverpool have been unfortunate, is that when they have made errors they have been punished harshly for them. They will be bang up there next season IMO. *For the sake of balance, AVB is also guilty of 'management speak' to some extent, although some is down to translation. "Michael Dawson is a man of immense human dimension" as an example. Sounds like something that has been come out of Google Translate from Portuguese to English.

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.
