m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.

For a small club with a stadium smaller than most midtable teams Liverpool are doing very well. I think they can look at teams like Swansea and think ye, we can win the league cup too. To be nearly on the same points as Everton is brilliant for a club like Liverpool and there is no same in being out of the europa league before Newcastle, Newcastle have a huge stadium so it is an unfair comparison.

Liverpool are punching above their weight in fairness. You have United, City and Chelsea in the top tier. Then Arsenal, spurs and Everton. Then Liverpool, Swansea and Newcastle. That Liverpool are nearly on the same points as Everton is terrific for them for a small club, and they have a smaller stadium than Newcastle yet are higher in the league, though the Magpies are still in Europe, all in all I think Liverpool are overperforming, fair play to them really.

Oh dear gulliver, you really believe what you type dont you Try reading all the comments, not just those that you selectively decide you'll take on board. Why not just increase the gate money? The large percentage of people who go to LFC matches come over from Norway anyway so who cares except them?

I fully accept Arsenal are rubbish. We sold our excellent players and kept the average ones. We do have a lot of money to spend. We might spend it on good players. We have a large mortgage on a big new house. Were Liverpool bailed out by Hicks and Gillette or the new owners? If they were and are all ready £80M in debt is that not like a junky getting clean and then taking the smack again? Surely this will end in a Leeds, Portsmouth way?

On whether Liverpool is run poorly at the corporate level, it's a lot harder to run a club that isn't getting the Champions League money, cannot pick from an unlimited pool of talented players, and/or is not financed by some publicity artist. Solving the first two points requires a balance of intelligently spending money that's available (which in 2011 was not done correctly), but it's infinitely more difficult than when you're already in the top four with regularity. We wouldn't say that Swansea was poorly run because they didn't choose to buy Van Persie for £24m, that was never going to happen to begin with. Similarly, they couldn't punt £800m+ into the transfer market, so that doesn't make them poorly run either. It's been said a million times, the real sins were pre-2009, when we could've done something about it with less money. Money was wasted in 2011, but that's the problem with spending above your weight in the market, you have to buy intelligently or have unlimited funds.

Fishcake - Did you seriously say that, come on man. If that were the case Man Utd would be relegated. 3 in the Bus, I understand your trying to poke the bear that is the collective Liverpool supporters. If not, then it's clear to all you very little about Football, please tell me your not one of these 12 years old who think Football was invented by Sega? Liverpool are NOT "A bit crap", not as good as Man Utd I'll give you that, but after them, who else has been head and shoulders above the rest? Is anyone on here actually dumb enough to say this ISN'T a highly competitive League. Look, I'm pleased with Liverpool's progress, and I believe true Football fans, who can get past the pettiness, would agree that Liverpool are starting to look promising again (Brother-in-law - Spurs fan, good buddy - Man Utd fan, ex-military buddy - Arsenal fan - all agree with me that Pool are improving and might just push for Top 4 next year). Man Utd have won soooo many titles because they clobber the lesser teams, is ANYONE on here gonna be stupid enough to say this HASN'T been Liverpool problem for years. That's changing and it fills me with confidence - why? Because again, anyone who knows anything about Football will agree, the big boys are all capable of winning and losing against each other. Don't believe me, have a look at the last 5 seasons "Top Clubs Mini League", it's all over the bloody place... Big game for Pool this weekend, if they can show Spurs a little something (I honestly believe we will, we p*ssed all over them at the Lane and lost - payback and the team will be up for it remembering the last meeting) I believe they'll finish the season really strongly, ending up 6th, perhaps even 5th.

Great middle of the road comments from middle of the road Managing Director,at a middle of the road club (current position that is) owned by middle of the road owners.Im sorry FSG are really relying on Financial Fair Play to come in and make everything all right.Well while your waiting for that to happen, other owners are investing what is needed to get their clubs to the top.As in the MLB, Liverpool like the Red Sox will be left in the wake of other teams who owners are willing to do what it takes to win.
