Davies, who has burst onto the scene both domestically and internationally this season, has made over 40 appearances in 2012/13 for the Swans and Wales.

The youngster has only recently celebrated his 20th birthday and many expected his consistency since filling the void created by Neil Taylor's unfortunate early-season injury to be recognised.

Davies was, however, edged out by eventual winner Gareth Bale, Danny Welbeck, Christian Benteke, Jack Wilshere, Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku when the PFA revealed the contenders for this season's player prizes.

"I wasn't disappointed not to be on the list because I didn't expect anything," Davies told Wales Online.

"If I was on the shortlist it would have been a huge bonus.

"I just want to keep impressing the manager and keep working hard at my job. I'll take whatever comes with that if it happens."

Competition

For now, Davies is focused on ending the season as positively as possible, with Taylor having recovered from a badly broken leg to make a welcome return to action during Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Chelsea.

He added: "It's great to have him back in the squad. It's good for me too. It means we have competition now and we'll be both fighting for the shirt.

"But I'm only thinking about Manchester City on Saturday because that's going to be another very hard game for us.

"Beating them last season was probably our best Premier League win. It's one of the big scalps we have had. There is no reason why we can't go and do it again.

"I'm confident the lads can reach those heights. We're a confident bunch of players and I'm sure if we work hard then we can get something out of the game."

hould have stayed because we carried him for 6.5 years. And then he has a breakthrough season, and was gone soon after. MU fans, you would be as disgusted had C Ronaldo left in 2007 and not 2009.

ood grief. Someone guessed that the form English player at the moment might be in his national side with some other players? And that's espionage? Now if they discovered that Emile Heskey was going to be in the starting line up.... at right back.... THAT would be espionage. Give it a rest Roy.
