That was the verdict of Manchester United manager David Moyes after Rooney's damaged shin kept him out of Wednesday's Champions League game at Shakhtar Donetsk.

A gashed forehead kept the striker out of England's recent World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine.

And his omission from United's team-sheet in Ukraine raised fears he could miss this month's key games against Poland and Montenegro.

Moyes put those concerns to bed in the aftermath of a 1-1 draw, saying: "It's not that serious. He took a clash of shins with Danny Welbeck and it's just swollen up."

Asked whether Rooney would be fit for Saturday's trip to Sunderland, the Scot said: "I hope so."
