The German coach, 60, has three Bundesliga titles - two with Bayern and one with Wolfsburg - on his illustrious CV, but he has accepts that the Craven Cottage survival challenge is of a different order.

"It's the most difficult because now we are behind the other teams," he said.

"The team is growing together and that is what makes me sure we can avoid relegation."

Fulham are bottom of the table - four points from safety - and are without a win in eight league games ahead of Saturday's match against Cardiff City.

Magath's first two matches have resulted in a 1-1 draw at West Brom and a 3-1 home defeat by Chelsea.

"The best confidence you can get is if you win," the Fulham manager said. "We need a win for ourselves, for our confidence.

"We have a good schedule for the last 10 games because most of the teams that play in the Champions League we have played, except Manchester City.

"I get the feeling here that everybody knows that and everybody sleeps well with the knowledge that there are games ahead of us that we can win."

Magath may again be without Kostas Mitroglou this weekend; the Greek striker has played just 30 minutes since joining from Olympiakos in January.

"He has gone to the national team and he has played 60 minutes," Magath said.

"He will come back today but he is not match fit - he has muscle problems now. Our doctor has to see him and maybe if he is fit he will play.

"We need a player in our situation that is prepared for 90 minutes. We have a relegation fight."
