The 30-year-old had fallen out of favour with manager Paul Lambert at Villa Park and was subsequently signed by his former Tottenham boss Martin Jol on a season-long deal.

Bent netted on his Fulham debut - a 3-1 defeat at home to Arsenal - but managed to hit just six goals in all competitions as the Cottagers were condemned to relegation.

The former England striker was often used as a substitute and he admits that his time in London did not turn out as he initially hoped.

"I've enjoyed my time down here but obviously it hasn't gone well. I haven't played as much football as I would have liked," he told the Express and Star.

"When I first came here I hoped it was going to be a case of playing fairly regularly, but it just wasn't meant to be."

I

think all those names linked to United exits make sense. Kagawa has never really looked like hitting the form he had at Dortmund and Fellaini is radioactive after last season (even though I think he's been unfairly singled out for criticism). Nani and Anderson have had more than their fair share of chances so they are done, and Hernandez deserves better than warming a bench.
