The 29-year-old Italy international joined Sunderland from Italian champions Juventus last summer.

Giaccherini only made 16 starts in the Premier League last season and has been linked with a move back to Serie A this summer.

Turkish club Galatasaray are also reported to be interested in Giaccherini, but the former Cesena winger’s agent, Furio Valcareggi, has insisted that he is happy playing for Sunderland and is not looking to leave the Stadium of Light.

"Giaccherini wants to stay at Sunderland a lot and stay in the team," he told the Sunderland Echo.

"He hopes to have fewer difficulties than last season. The talk about Galatasaray is an invention."
