The experienced frontman was among those to figure prominently on Ian Holloway’s radar in 2013.

A deal to take Johnson to Selhurst Park was put in place, only for the clock to scupper Palace’s plans.

The paperwork required to complete a deadline day deal could not be processed in time, with Johnson undergoing a late medical.

It has been suggested that Palace have kept Johnson in their thoughts since then, with the 33-year-old having enjoyed four productive years with the club between 2002 and 2006.

Co-chairman Steve Parish is, however, of the opinion that current boss Tony Pulis is looking elsewhere.

Palace already have Marouane Chamakh, Dwight Gayle, Glenn Murray and new boy Fraizer Campbell on their books, so another striker is not considered to be a top priority.

Parish told the Croydon Advertiser on Johnson, who is now available as a free agent after reaching the end of his contract at Queens Park Rangers: “I am not sure, you’d have to ask the manager.

“Andy is not someone we’ve spoken about. I think maybe that was one for last year and that has now passed us by.

“It has probably gone now, unfortunately.”
