The 31-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan to Qatar club Al Gharafa after new QPR boss Harry Redknapp reshaped his squad.

While Montpellier boss Jean Fernandez admits the striker, who scored 10 goals for Rangers following his £4m transfer from Lazio, is an option, it is thought his big wages could prove a stumbling block.

Fernandez told L'Equipe: "We want to hire a forward because neither Emanuel Herrera nor Gaetan Charbonnier really impressed so far, but there is not only Djibril Cisse.

"We are looking at the market. We are attracted by several players. There is no emergency so far."
