Redknapp's side won the game with a late Clint Hill goal and he was pleased with the performance.

He told Sky Sports: "It was another good performance, similar to last week at Bolton. We were solid and earned a clean sheet again.

"It's a tough place to come and I think we deserved the win today.

"I thought the lads were excellent again. At the back we were strong; you win the league with clean sheets if we can defend like that every week.

"Richard Dunne and Nedum Onuoha were outstanding again and Clint Hill popped up at the right time in the right place. The whole performance was good."

Redknapp was quick to heap praise on the new signings he has brought to the club but believes his side still have more to give this season.

He added: "There's a new spirit here. We've made changes, people come and go, and the people I've brought in I wasn't taking a chance with.

"I know Richard Dunne, I tried to sign him five years ago. The chance to get Richard Dunne on a free transfer was a no brainer.

"Gary O'Neil, Danny Simpson, all the other lads who have come in have all been excellent.

"Away from home you have to dig out results. I still feel we can play better, maybe my standards are higher but I still feel there's lots of room for improvement with real quality around the box, how we can be cleverer and open teams up more."

The 66-year-old also confirmed he is still looking to bring players to the club but they must have the similar attitude to the ones he has already recruited.

He said: "We're still looking over the next few days to bring two, three or four more players in that I think could make the difference to us.

"We've not got a big squad; 18 players have left so we need to improve the squad. We have three central defenders on our books so there are still areas we can strengthen and we'll do that in the next few days.

"We are trying. We've got some good targets, not gambles, real good players in my opinion, just like the others I've brought in, all good people who I know I can put my life on."

With talk already surrounding a promotion challenge, Redknapp was quick to play it down.

"It's an excellent start but there's a long way to go. You can only get that early start and that's what we've done but there's an awful long way to go and it's a long road this league," he said.

"I've been here before with Portsmouth, we started like this and managed to stay there. We just need that extra quality to give us strength in depth."

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. Up front on several occasions we had opportunities and nobody would shoot - it was a complete farse! On the back of Salah's performance I'm glad there is talk of getting shot...

reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
