With top scorer Charlie Austin still sidelined through injury, Harry Redknapp opted to start without a recognised striker at Vicarage Road.

However, the visitors rarely threatened to break the deadlock - apart from one Matt Phillips shot that forced Hornets goalkeeper Manuel Almunia into a good save and two Niko Kranjcar shots that went narrowly wide.

Assistant boss Bond said: "It's been the same old story for us.

"We came here and played without a centre-forward as such, a recognised striker, but we came with a plan which I thought worked really well and we really dominated the game in the first half.

"We had a couple of half-chances and Niko (Kranjcar) had a couple of shots from the edge of the box - but it's been our problem [scoring goals], as we've spoken about many times before.

"They [Watford] went a little bit more direct in the second half and the game opened up - but it was a game of very few chances."

QPR had Andrew Johnson and Bobby Zamora on the bench but Bond confirmed they were not fit enough to start.

He added: "In terms of how we played, certainly in the first half, we played very well - but the game's about scoring goals.

"We haven't got goalscorers in the side. We've got creative players who create opportunities and they'll all chip in with a couple of goals a season.

"But you need to know whether your strikers can give you 20 goals a season and a Frank Lampard type of midfield player that can get you double figures in a season. We haven't got enough of them."

This was a third game unbeaten for new Watford head coach Giuseppe Sannino and he was delighted with a point.

He said: "It was a very good result against a very good team that we know was tipped to win the title."

Asked for his assessment of the Championship after three matches at the helm, Sannino responded: "It is a very tough league. I knew and I can confirm that now because we've faced three different teams in different positions.

"Today, I knew it was difficult before the game and it was a good game against a good squad. I know that we have to improve - but we have time now to improve."

Turning to his assessment of his own team, Sannino said: "My judgement is I have a good team, a good group but I can say that my group wants to improve - that's the impression I have.

"I saw an improvement organisation-wise. Today, we made another step forward. We showed good organisation."

Watford have only conceded one goal in Sannino's three games and he remarked: "When I arrived I thought I had to start from the defence.

"I'm really convinced that if you win, it's because you defend well. If we can keep this solidity at the back we can be very dangerous up front in the future."

aha, as a German supporting United I can only agree with your great insight in German football! No idea why, but I HATE Eintracht Braunschweig and please don't ever place a bet on Leverkusen, they mess up my ticket every time!
