The right-back has been a model of consistency since signing for the Championship side from Newcastle last summer and has been an ever-present so far this season.

However, he has sustained a small fracture in his back and Rangers have therefore recalled Max Ehmer from a loan spell with Carlisle.

"It's a big blow," said Rs boss Harry Redknapp. "Danny has played every game for us this season but he's picked up a back problem in recent weeks and it's got worse.

"He will be out for a while which is a blow to us, because he's been great since signing in the summer."

The 21-year-old Ehmer has impressed for Carlisle in League 1, making 14 appearances and scoring once since arriving in November.

Carlisle boss Graham Kavanagh said: "We're obviously disappointed, because Max has been fantastic for us.

"He's shown us that he has real quality and he has been a big part of our squad since joining. We wish him well."

ow is the time for Allardyce to finally get a chance at a big club please. He is likely to have a number of great offers for his services this summer, but who will he choose? Will it be Liverpool, Real Madrid, Dortmund or Man City?
