The 25-year-old, who has spent loan spells with the likes of Leeds, Peterborough and Bristol City, is wanted by Brown on loan to help end his side's nine-match winless run.

"When you look at the qualities we want to bring to this football club, Hogan just oozes them," Brown told the Southend Echo.

"He has that kind of pace and extra quality we need in the final third and that's why we've enquired about trying to bring him in.

"Whether or not he's available or would want to come to us I don't know. It's one that I would say is up in the air at the moment but we would certainly love to sign him."
