The centre-half was injured during a 3-1 win at Berwick on Saturday and is facing at least six weeks on the sidelines.
That timescale would leave him just three weeks to build up his fitness and get back in the side before the final game of the season on 4 May.
Chris Hegarty partnered Emilson Cribari at the back for Tuesday's 1-1 draw at Stirling, and the pair could continue against East Stirlingshire this weekend.
Ally McCoist also has the versatile Lee McCulloch back in training after ankle problems.
