Bocanegra makes the move to Chivas on a free transfer after cancelling his contract at Rangers by mutual consent last week.

The 34-year-old spent last season on loan at Racing Santander and he has now returned to his native USA.

"This is great news for Chivas USA, as Carlos Bocanegra is a very experienced player with a great image and with a strong desire to be in California after his time in European soccer", said Chivas USA sporting president Dennis te Kloese in a statement on the team's website.

Bocanegra also played for Fulham, Rennes, St Etienne during his time in Europe.
