The Scotland Under-21 international suffered damage to muscles around his heart after picking up a virus in January and missed the rest of the campaign.

But he passed the fitness tests on his return to pre-season training and is focused on helping Rangers beat Hearts and Hibernian to the Scottish Championship title.

The 20-year-old told the club's website: "It's always hard to get back into the team and in the last two seasons I've had bad injuries for long spells.

"After the first one when I hurt my knee, I was able to come back into the team and I feel I did well last year.

"Hopefully I can do the same again this season and make a good impact because I'm looking forward to the new campaign.

"On paper, the Championship looks good and we're all hoping it lives up to expectations. It'll suit us a lot more as more football will be played.

"Teams attacking us more will suit our style of play as we can hit them on the counter and all the boys are relishing the challenge."

Gerrard: I would leave Anfield

xcellent! Not sure if he is any good as a manager (never thought about it) but the 'headbutt in the technical area' and what he said to Pelligrini were just brilliant, it was as if he was trying to recreate the end of the Alan Partridge Xmas special when Alan punched a man in a wheelchair and verbally abused Tony Heirs.
