The Royals went ahead in the first half through Kaspars Gorkss before Djibril Cisse sealed a draw with a strike just after the hour.

But McDermott was pleased to pick up a point, despite the fact his side - like QPR - remain without a win this term.

"It is a good point, we were one-up and maybe could have gone two-up, and then when they got back to 1-1, Alex McCarthy has made a great save from Taarabt," he told Sky Sports.

"But the performance today was a really good away from home performance."

McDermott insists that his side's performance was not inspired by their midweek League Cup capitulation to Arsenal.

"You can analyse that game to death but I know what happened and some of the performances in the first half [against Arsenal] were fantastic and that was the team virtually I put out," he insisted.

"But I thought we were excellent at times, we really dug in and this is never an easy place to come, Everton have got a draw here, Chelsea have got a draw and we take a draw today.

"They have good players here, we have to move on and we are playing at home next and we look forward to it."

McDermott was full of praise for young goalkeeper McCarthy who made two brilliant saves, one in each half from Esteban Granero and then Adel Taraabt at the death.

"The first that hit the bar [from Granero] was a fabulous save, and the other one was a really good save but we had our opportunities as well - a couple of free headers in the box we maybe could have taken probably late in the game. Our quality into the box needs to be better but I was proud of our players today," he added.
