Le Fondre remains optimistic

Reading striker Adam Le Fondre reckons the Royals will survive this season if they play like they did against Manchester United on Saturday.

Le Fondre scored against the team he has supported since childhood as Brian McDermott's side finished the game on the wrong end of a 4-3 scoreline.

All seven goals were scored in a manic 34-minute period in the first half, with the defeat leaving Reading 19th in the table and four points from safety.

But Le Fondre believes that if the players can replicate the performance that almost brought them a positive result against the leaders of the Premier League, then they will be able to rescue the current situation - starting against fellow strugglers Southampton this weekend.

"I think we can take heart from the performance and take it into the coming games," Le Fondre told the club's official website.

"Every game is important in this league and every game is a tough test. But if we play against Southampton like we did on Saturday then we'll be okay."

Former Rotherham forward Le Fondre, who turned 26 on Sunday, expected a different type of game when Reading welcomed the Red Devils to the Madejski Stadium and was disappointed that United left with all three points.

He said: "When you play against that sort of opposition you expect a tight game but it didn't really play out that way. It was end to end, loads of chances, but we're disappointed that we were on the wrong end of the result.

"We had a top team on the ropes throughout the game - we created good chances from set-pieces, got in front but unfortunately couldn't quite hold on."

Le Fondre was pleased to register a goal against the club he supports - a header which drew Reading level at 2-2 with only 19 minutes gone - but he did not savour the feeling he felt after Robin van Persie scored a 34th-minute winner for the visitors.

"To score against United was something I dreamt about as a kid," he said.

"But ultimately, it's a results business and my goal doesn't take anything away from the game because we got beat."

ven if United were to sign CR7 & Messi to play upfront, the fact remains Fletcher and Cleverly are playing in midfield. That's where the problem is. Fletcher is too slow with an awful pass, while Cleverly is simply rubbish
