Guthrie was disciplined by the club after refusing to travel with the Royals squad for their game with Sunderland on 11 December.

The 25-year-old has since returned to the fold and he was pleased with the positive response he received from the Reading crowd.

"I do feel I've got a point to prove. Obviously, it's been a difficult few weeks," he told the club's official website.

"I worked my socks off and I'll only get better. It was a really good starting point for me.

"It was nice for the fans to give me their backing. I noticed that at (the 1-0 defeat at) Man City when I came on they were behind me and being at home it was nice.

"I want to kick on from here. They had a right to (jeer at me) and I was prepared for that. But it was a nice boost before the game."

As for Reading's chances of avoiding relegation straight back down to the Championship, Guthrie remains bullish and feels his experience of a relegation scrap with former club Newcastle could prove invaluable.

"I've had a relegation battle before with Newcastle - it's not a problem for me. What's gone on has gone on and it's all in the past. We'll draw a line under it as a squad," he added.

"Every game is a big game for us now this season. Personally, I'm just looking at 17th place and making sure they don't get too far away from us."

Next up for Brian McDermott's side is the visit of West Ham to the Madejski Stadium on Saturday and Guthrie feels they are a strong proposition at home.

"At home we've got points and we need to be solid away from home - like we were at City where we were unlucky," said Guthrie.

"West Ham is a big game. Obviously they came up last season and did well but it's an encouraging two games we've had.

"There's still belief in the squad - we don't mind what anyone says. At the end of the day, it's (17th position in the Premier League) only six points away and two games go quick in this league, so we're not at panic stations."

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. Up front on several occasions we had opportunities and nobody would shoot - it was a complete farse! On the back of Salah's performance I'm glad there is talk of getting shot...

reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
