Sir John Madejski is confident Nigel Adkins can lead Reading back to the Premier League, although he admits he had reservations about the former Southampton manager when he was hired to replace Brian McDermott.

Madejski also thinks promotion to the top flight last summer may have come too soon for the club.

"In many ways it was, not a relief, but at least we know now we are going to be in the Championship next season, so now we can start building the team over the summer," he told Sky Sports News.

"We have a new manager in Nigel Adkins and he has his plans. He has been working with the team for a month or so and he knows exactly what he is going to do.

"Although I wasn't totally enthusiastic about it at the start, it was absolutely the right thing for Anton [Zingarevich, club owner] to bring him in when he did and now he knows what he has got to achieve during the summer months and get Reading to put the show on the road come August.

"Hopefully we can fight and get back into the Premier League next season."

suspect the review will conclude that Iago Aspas should never have been loaned out. Two hat-tricks in two Copa Del Rey games. One might say he has really turned a corner.
