The Scotland international was set to leave The Hawthorns on loan, but Albion wanted an agreement over a permanent deal in place.

Both Forest and Reading were hopeful of sealing a loan for Dorrans, who is keen to make the move having fallen down the midfield pecking order under Steve Clarke, but neither club could finalise terms with the Baggies.

Dorrans will now have to wait until January to get his move away from West Brom, who are happy to keep the 26-year-old in their own squad.

Dorrans is out of contract next summer, so West Brom are likely to want to sell him in January - before he can move for free at the end of the season.
