The Royals climbed back into the top six on goal difference with just four games remaining in the Championship campaign.
Danny Drinkwater's superb strike cancelled out Alex Pearce's opener to earn already-promoted Leicester a point and Adkins is happy his side have their fate in their own hands as the season draws to a climax.
"We've got a point to put us back in the play-offs; four games to go and it's in our destiny which is important," Adkins told Sky Sports 1.
"We should have had a penalty but we've had to dig in at the end and show some grit to get ourselves over the line and get a point.
"But all in all we have played against a team that will be worthy champions of the division and they are going to the Premier League and they were up for it and I thought we were up for it as well.
"We keep going and we are in there and we are battling and we have still got a chance."
Adkins believes the race for a spot in the play-offs will go down to the wire with a host of sides still holding hopes of finishing in the top six.
"It's all to play for," added Adkins. "It's going to go all the way down to the last game and all being well we are still in with a shout when it comes to that last game."
