Le Fondre has 12 months remaining on his contract and has been trying to sort out a new deal for some time without success.

A host of other players, including Danny Guthrie, Alex McCarthy, Jem Karacan and Garath McCleary, also have just a year left to run on their current deals.

Talks have been put on hold while chairman Sir John Madejski hunts for a new owner, and Le Fondre says everyone is keen for the club to show a sense of direction.

"I've been trying to sort it out with the club for 12 or 18 months now but nothing's progressed," he told the Reading Post about his contract.

"I don't know what will happen with me if I'm honest. It's the same for everyone. We're all uncertain.

"We don't know what's happening with the takeover, we don't know what's happening with the club and which way it's going to go forward."

Le Fondre is happy at Reading and would like to stay, while he hopes manager Nigel Adkins will be given the chance to bring in reinforcements after narrowly missing out on a place in the play-offs.

The striker added: "We need some stable backing to give the gaffer some money to bring players in and strengthen the squad.

"We need to galvanise the club and please the fans so we can come back stronger.

"I'm settled here but in football everything changes in a moment so you never know. Obviously the takeover determines a lot I guess."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
