The 32-year-old is available as a free agent after being released by Reading at the end of the 2013/14 campaign.

The former Crystal Palace and Watford man is an experienced campaigner who has spent the vast majority of his career turning out at Championship level.

He is, however, without an employer at present and is leaving himself open to offers.

McAnuff claims to already have a number on the table, with it possible that he will take on an exciting new challenge outside of the English game.

He said in the Reading Post: “For me, the main thing is to get somewhere where I will have the best possibility of having a successful season, regardless of where that is.

When pressed on the option of going abroad, McAnuff replied: “That’s another option that I’ve looked into and there are a few things bubbling over on that front.

“It’s something that I quite fancy, as my wife does as well.

“Being a free agent, those are the things you can really explore.

“It’s just a matter of looking around really and picking what’s right for you and your family.

“Whether that’s abroad, at home, up north or in the south, it isn’t that much of an issue for me.

“It’s just about being patient, not rushing into anything that isn’t going to be the right fit.”

He added: “Most of my career I’ve spent at the top end of the Championship so for me that’s something I’m try to carry on.

“It just so happens that throughout my career I’ve been in and around London – obviously Reading being the exception but even that was just straight down the M4.

“Ideally of course I would like to be somewhere sooner rather than later but until then, it’s about keeping myself ticking over and being ready for when that opportunity comes about.

“It’s about keeping yourself in good shape, that’s one thing I’ve been doing.

“I’m doing it by myself at the minute. But there’s no substitute for being in and among a group of lads, working hard, especially in pre-season when you can drive each other on.”

till reckon Chelsea will go for Khedira as back up for Matic. I think it will turn out to be quite a Mourihno-y window: We'll see the squad players and youth in action pre-season, say things like well, we need not buy anybody and then the club will bid £60m for Pogba and send everybody on loan.

I

would love to be a fly on the wall at the meeting between Milner and Rodgers. I don't know if flies can count, but if they can then I would be counting the number of times Rodgers used the word outstanding in his attempts to get Milner to sign.

Reds and Arsenal chase Milner

W

ell, it wouldn't be a summer without Arsenal fans fretting over losing a key player, and United throwing their weight around and muscling in on transfer deals which are (apparently) near to completion. If we can't be entertained by the football on the pitch, let's enjoy the silly off-pitch soap opera of the transfer season. Hurrah!
