Anthony Pilkington: Happy to play for Republic of Ireland if selected

Pilkington says the wheels have been set in motion for him to play for the Republic after Irish management contacted him over a potential call-up.

Marco Tardelli, assistant of manager Giovanni Trapattoni, watched the 24-year-old in action as he scored and provided an assist during the Canaries' 2-1 victory over Wigan at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Pilkington was born in England but his maternal grandmother hails from Dublin, making him eligible to play.

The winger, who earned one cap for the Republic Under-21s back in 2008, is waiting to hear back over his potential involvement.

He said: "I have had a call from the Republic and they are now starting to sort out all the paperwork. That's where we are at the moment.

"But their next game isn't until February so we will just have to wait and see what happens now. We just have to sort out all the paperwork and then go from there really.

"I am definitely eligible because my grandmother comes from Ireland, from Dublin. So I would be more than happy to play for them, if I am selected."
