David Meyler: Has a knee problem

Meyler has left the squad after failing to shake off a knee problem.

The 23-year-old picked up the injury during his club's 1-0 win at Millwall on Saturday, in which he scored the decisive goal, and despite reporting for duty with the rest of his international colleagues, has now been sent home.

Manager Giovanni Trapattoni will decide this afternoon whether or not to call up a replacement.

Assistant Marco Tardelli revealed that Everton's Darron Gibson, who has made himself unavailable for his country since the Euro 2012 finals, had declined an offer to return, but only because he is suffering from a minor problem himself.

Aston Villa defender Ciaran Clark and West Brom striker Shane Long did not train in Malahide on Monday morning, but Tardelli revealed both were rested, Clark with a minor knee injury and Long because he played the full 90 minutes of his club's 1-0 Barclays Premier League defeat by Tottenham on Sunday.

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.

afa has to be favourite for the Everton job now, surely :) He'll realise his ambition to live and work on Merseyside again, get the best out of whoever plays for them, maybe win some cups and be thoroughly loathed by the toffee fans. What's not to like? Go ead, Ken, gimajob!
