The Staggies are currently ninth in the league table after drawing six of their opening 11 matches and winning two.
And chairman Roy MacGregor is eager to reward Adams with a new deal, despite the former Hibernian assistant still having time to run on his current contract.
"Derek is halfway through the second year of his deal and we would like to extend it, although he has 18 months remaining and I am relaxed about the situation," MacGregor told the Daily Record.
"Derek has done great so far and, like the club, he is finding his feet very successfully in the SPL."
