Steve Lomas: Looking for a win to go above Hibs in the table

Saints leapfrogged Aberdeen into fifth place a fortnight ago with a convincing 3-1 win over the Dons at McDiarmid Park.

Steve Lomas' side are a point behind Hibs, with a game in hand, and the St Johnstone boss is looking for his side to bounce back from their William Hill Scottish Cup defeat by St Mirren last week, and to make amends for two defeats to Hibs earlier this season.

Pat Fenlon's side won 2-0 at home in August and 1-0 at McDiarmid Park in November but Lomas is looking to make amends.

The Northern Irishman said: "We did well against Aberdeen and we took our chances that day.

"And at this stage it is about getting as many wins as possible and we will take a win by hook or crook.

"But Hibs will see it the same way, a chance to increase their lead over us, so there should be all to play for.

"The performance levels against them this season have been good but not in terms of results.

"I am more than happy with the way we played against them.

"With a bit of luck and better finishing we could have beat them and that was the same last week against St Mirren.

"Any time you go out of the cup it is always disappointing, especially when we could have been 2-0 up at half-time, had it not been for their goalkeeper."

Lomas will be looking to his side to get the opening goal against Hibernian after going behind to St Mirren in the cup.

"The first goal was critical and of course it was St Mirren who got it," he said.

"We pushed on and left spaces at the back and they got a second and goals change games.

"But we had more than enough chances to win the game."

s there a PR agency covering Begovich, Odemwingie, Steven Fletcher and Grant Holt or something? Why would you offer a quote like that without having been announced by either club. #headsshoulderskneesandtoesgone

adly this is inevitable. No club outside the top 4/5 can hang on to anyone who shows that kind of talent anymore. Might be best for them to get as much as they can now while his stock is high and start again. On the plus side lads, Grant Holt is still available.
