Steve Lomas: Tells players to be on their guard

The Northern Irishman has regularly lamented a lack of cutting edge in his side this season, most recently in last week's Scottish Cup fifth-round exit to St Mirren in Paisley.

Lomas is aware the often controversial Griffiths, 22, knows his way to goal with 15 for the season so far and is likely to be the biggest threat to the Perth men.

He said: "Hibs have shown a big improvement from last season, when defensively they were poor, especially from free-kicks and corners.

"Pat has brought in some good players like James McPake, Paul Hanlon and Ryan McGivern whom I know all about,

"They also have Scott Robertson and the guy from Barnsley (Matt Done) and David Wotherspoon has been there for a while so they have some decent players and they have Griffiths up front.

"He is a goal scorer, a dogged and determined attacker and when a player like him is playing for you you always have a chance."

Lomas got his first chance to see 20-year-old Mehdi Abeid and 19-year-old Gwion Edwards, signed on loan during the transfer window until the end of the season from Newcastle and Swansea respectively, when they came on as second-half substitutes against the Buddies.

The former West Ham and Manchester City midfielder is looking for them to put pressure on the more established players in his side in the second-half of the season.

He said: "We got them in to increase competition and to compete for places in the team and a move to the SPL is good for them as well.

"We have lost a few senior players and the boys were very hungry, very keen to play here.

"The senior players know that if they don't perform then the boys are capable of coming in."
