St Johnstone boss Steve Lomas hailed his side following their 2-0 win over top-six rivals Kilmarnock on Saturday after bouncing back from their midweek defeat to Hearts.

Second-half goals from Murray Davidson and substitute Gregory Tade secured Saints the win over Kenny Shiels' side at McDiarmid Park, and Lomas was thrilled with their third win of the season over the Rugby Park outfit.

"It was a very good team performance on a pitch that wasn't conducive to playing good football," he said.

"I can't remember Killie having too many chances. We were pretty dominant in the second half and deserved the win.

"We needed that sport of performance to bounce back after Hearts and the kick in the teeth we got dropping two points late against Dundee. We created five or six really good chances."

Lomas also expressed his annoyance at the SPL schedule ahead for his side - the Saints now face three Saturdays without a game before back-to-back clashes with Tayside rivals Dundee United and Inverness.

"We now have a three-week break followed by two games in four days. I don't know what has happened there, it is somewhat bizarre," he said.

"We just have to get on with it and deal with it. We can recharge the batteries after a hectic schedule.

"We will have bounce games but ideally we would have a match next week."
