Samson kept goal for the Buddies in their 3-1 win at Rugby Park on Saturday in the sides' final game of the season but will switch sides next season.

He now returns to the club where he briefly played before, his only appearance for Killie coming against Aberdeen in January 2004.

Samson is understood to have signed a two-year deal at Kilmarnock with the option of a further year and Shiels was delighted to land one of his transfer targets.

"It's great to have Craig at the club and hopefully we can move on and have a good season next year," he said.
