Campbell: We don't fear Hoops

St Mirren striker Adam Campbell is confident his side will bounce back from their defeat to Kilmarnock when they face Celtic in front of the Sky cameras on Sunday.

Adam Campbell: Keen to impress against the Hoops

Adam Campbell: Keen to impress against the Hoops

The teenager, who is on loan from Newcastle United, drew rave reviews from boss Danny Lennon after his goalscoring debut in the 2-1 loss at Rugby Park on Thursday.

Campbell scored after just 18 minutes of the match but goals from Rory McKenzie and an injury-time effort from Kris Boyd secured the points for Allan Johnston's side.

"I thought wee Adam Campbell gave a great flavour of what he's going to bring, not just for us but to Scottish football as a whole. He's got lovely soft feet, a lovely touch and good pace," said Lennon after the match.

And Campbell, who insists the result was tough on the Saints, believes he can repay the faith shown in him by Lennon in Sunday's lunchtime clash against the champions.

"We didn't deserve to lose the game and we all felt very hard done by to come out of it with nothing," he told Sky Sports News, "But I don't think the result will be an issue as we will be playing the best team in the country.

"They have beaten Barcelona recently and put up good shows in other Champions League games so I don't think we will need to be motivated.

"If we can all play to our best ability then I don't see why we can't get something out of the game."

And Campbell also paid tribute to Newcastle boss Allan Pardew who was keen for the 19-year-old to follow fellow-Geordie youngsters Paul Dummett and Conor Newton to St Mirren Park.

"As soon as he heard St Mirren were interested in me then up I came and I'm really enjoying it so far, apart from the rain which has not stopped since I arrived on Boxing Day, but that's Scotland for you.

"He knows how well Paul did up here last season and sees how well things are going for Conor at the moment," he said.

"Obviously they were both part of St Mirren's League Cup-winning team last season, which was massive not just for the club but for them both with the experience they gained.

"I hope to replicate what Paul did. He came up here, played regular football and loved it and he went back, got himself a new deal and scored against Liverpool.

"He then started the derby which is what every Newcastle boy wants to do. So hopefully I can follow in his footsteps."

You can see how Adam gets on against the SPFL leaders live from St Mirren Park at 12.30pm this Sunday on Sky Sports 1

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
