Scotland find themselves rooted to the bottom of World Cup qualifying Group A after failing to win any of their opening four games to leave them facing an uphill battle to reach the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.

Strachan takes charge of his first competitive games for Scotland in the upcoming qualifiers against Wales and Serbia, and Wigan ace McArthur hopes to help the manager get off to a winning start against the former at Hampden Park on Friday.

"He seems a very good manager and he's a very good man," McArthur told Sky Sports News. "Hopefully he can kick us on, but at the end of the day it's down to us players.

"He can do everything, he can set us up properly but we need to do it as players. It's the same as the previous manager and we didn't do that and hopefully we can turn that around with the new manager."

McArthur is not giving up on Scotland's hopes of qualifying for the finals in 2014, despite finding themselves eight points off leading duo Belgium and Croatia.

"As players we need to do it on the park and we have not in previous games, and we need to turn it round, and we need to go into Wales [game] and try and get the three points.

"Obviously a lot of people will be saying we are already out of the qualifiers, but all we can do is win games and see where it takes us."
