Gordon Strachan has drafted in the 31-year-old full-back as cover with Rangers' Lee Wallace sidelined and Norwich City's Steven Whittaker suspended.

Speaking earlier this week, Strachan said: "We won't take a chance with Lee. We'll have a look at his injury and assess it."

Hammell's only full international appearance came nine years ago when he appeared in a 4-1 friendly defeat by Sweden in 2004 when the team were under the care of interim manager Tommy Burns following the departure of Berti Vogts.

Hammell has also featured in B internationals and has been part of recent squads named by Strachan.

put Ince in my fantasy football team, so it's no surprise at all really. I do that to players. Also responsible for De Jong and Upson being injured. Think I'll transfer in Di Maria just to ruin United....
