Alan Trouten: Wants cup success

Alan Trouten has warned that Ayr United have no intention of simply making up the numbers in this weekend's Scottish Communities League Cup semi-final.

The Irn-Bru First Division side will be the underdogs when they take on local rivals Kilmarnock at Hampden on Saturday.

But Trouten believes Ayr have already shown they mean business in the competition by disposing of Clydesdale Bank Premier League opposition on three occasions so far.

Inverness, Hearts and St Mirren all saw their own cup aspirations come to an end at the hands of the Honest Men and the midfielder is optimistic about their prospects this time around.

Trouten said: "We think we've got a good chance. We have already beaten three SPL teams in the cup.

"After one or two, you think it's down to a bit of luck. But, after three, people have got to look at us as being a good side and we are looking to get the victory against Kilmarnock.

"We won't be thinking we are just glad to be in a semi-final - we are going there to win the game and we want to be in the final as much as Kilmarnock.

"In any game you go into, you always put pressure on yourself.

"Maybe people from outside will be saying all the pressure is on Kilmarnock but we won't be going there just to make up the numbers.

"We'll be there to give it a right good go."

He added: "The boys are absolutely buzzing. It's probably going to be the biggest game for most of us.

"We are all looking forward to it and hopefully we can do ourselves justice on Saturday and get into the final.

"It will be the biggest game of my career by far."

Trouten knows the fierce rivalry between the two Ayrshire clubs will only add extra spice to Saturday's clash.

He said: "When you are playing in a cup semi-final, you should be giving it your all anyway.

"But, with the build-up it's had and with it being a local derby, it could add extra motivation."

t's a bit sad to see Bosingwa leaving after he finally seemed to show some defensive ability when moved to centre back against Barca, but at least we'll be forced to pick up some sort of right fullback as cover. His new haircut seemed to decrease the prominence of the monobrow too.

ou realise this means he'll have more free time to tweet, appear on newsnight, and google philosphers... ban seems about right, but there will never be consistency from the FA, so that completely undermines any possible lesson to the kids. Apart from the lesson about being part of an important cash cow.
