Peter Houston: 'Hopefully it's onwards and upwards'

Peter Houston hopes his Dundee United side can build on an overdue win and prevail again in Wednesday's Scottish Communities League Cup quarter-final with Hearts.

A six-match winless run in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League was brought to an end with a 1-0 win at St Mirren on Saturday to ensure United enter the clash at Tannadice in optimistic mood.

United boss Houston told STV: "Hopefully it's onwards and upwards from now on because we've got a good spirit within the football club and we just want to do well.

"Hearts came up to Tannadice recently and beat us 3-0. I think we were far too open against then and let them counter-attack.

"We didn't close down shots and we found ourselves 2-0 down at half-time.

"Hopefully we've learned from that and we get closer, tighter and deny them shots at goal but we know it's going to be a tough, tough fixture.

"It's one we're looking forward to and it's one that, on our day, can go our way.

"I want to concentrate on our side and how we're going to create and take chances.

"Most importantly, again, we got a great clean sheet on Saturday and we'll start with a clean sheet and hopefully we end with it."
