Terry Butcher admits his players will have to handle the Ibrox atmosphere in order to reach the Scottish Communities League Cup semi-finals - but he has no fears over taking his in-form team to face Rangers.

Rangers were in determined mood in the third round as they beat Motherwell 2-0 in their first match against Clydesdale Bank Premier League opposition after the summer upheaval, and Butcher expects a similar performance from his former club.

But Caley Thistle are the SPL's top scorers with 23 goals in 11 games and were seconds away from a fourth consecutive league win on Saturday before being held by St Johnstone.

Butcher said: "The players who have played there before have been telling the others what to expect.

"It's going to be some occasion, we have to handle that first and foremost and the game will take care of itself.

"You only have to look back to when Rangers played Motherwell, and they deservedly beat Motherwell to progress, we know Rangers can be a very formidable opponent."

Many of Butcher's summer recruits came from English clubs and were seemingly denied the chance to play at Ibrox this season when the Rangers newco were denied entry to the SPL after the club were consigned to liquidation.

So Butcher is delighted to have been drawn to face former Ibrox team-mate Ally McCoist and allow his players the opportunity.

"It's a bonus more than anything else this season," the former England captain said.

"We have had two very difficult away matches against Stenhousemuir and Arbroath and came through them very well. This is the big one everyone was wanting, certainly our chairman Kenny Cameron wanted it.

"From a football point of view we have got a good chance.

"We feel we can take anyone on at the moment and have a good go at them. The boys are full of confidence.

"We're approaching Rangers at the right time. It would have been nice to approach them after a win on Saturday but we came very close to doing just that.

"But we have picked up 10 points out of the last 12 and done very well on the road as well.

"We will certainly go there and enjoy it. I asked the players this morning if they had played in front of 40-50,000 and quite a few of the newcomers had."

t's a bloody good goal, though. Sh!t, the kid's gonna be the worlds best before we know it, isn't he? He's got the touch of genius in him. Like Neymar, but with muscles and stuff. He's doing a Ronaldo as we watch. He's bulked up to be able to ride the tackles, but he's improved technically as well. His touch is sublime. Bugger.
