County bowed out of the William Hill Scottish Cup after losing 2-1 at rivals Inverness.

Billy McKay's ninth-minute penalty was cancelled out by Iain Vigurs four minutes before the break, but a second goal from McKay in the 54th minute proved enough for Inverness to edge through.

It is now back to league duty for County, who will hope to extend their advantage over the Scottish Premier League's bottom club to nine points with victory on Saturday - a game manager Adams hopes can see his side find the goal trail.

He said: "If we can reach the 20-point mark then it will have been a great start for us in the SPL. If we can get to that tally then we'll match where Aberdeen were at this point last season.

"We've got the third-best defensive record at home in the SPL. Now, we've got to look to add to that by scoring goals.

"We've only lost eight goals at home, where we've been very good."

Meanwhile, Caley boss Terry Butcher is delighted that he secured the future of McKay in the summer.

The striker, who agreed a two-year contract before the start of the campaign, took his tally for the season to 13 goals with his brace against County.

He is already understood to be interesting several Football League clubs in England, but Butcher is unconcerned about speculation regarding the former Northampton frontman.

He said: "It was a fantastic finish for the second goal against Ross County. Billy is a player growing in confidence all the time.

"We managed to get him tied down on a new deal in the summer, which is already proving to be a very good bit of business.

"There might be interest in him, but it doesn't worry me as he's under contract here."
