"On behalf of everyone at Rangers I would like to wish our fans a Happy New Year and thank them yet again for their unwavering support," he told rangersfc.co.uk.

"The backing we have had from the first match of the season has been unbelievable and I know it will continue for the rest of the campaign and beyond.

"Our attendances have been incredible all season and the supporters deserve enormous credit for turning out in huge numbers week after week.

"We are all looking forward to continued support from our fans for the games in 2013, starting with Elgin City at home on Saturday.

"The players, management team and staff can't thank the supporters enough for their incredible backing."

Rangers were forced to start the season in the lowest level of Scottish football after being denied admission to the top flight over financial irregularities at the Ibrox club.

lassic management. Build them up and then knock them back. Raise expectations and then dampen them. Create a dynamic where by you demand the most from your team, but where the team are given room to manoeuvre unexpected or unwanted results. Classy work by Van Gaal, he really reminds me a lot of me. A smart cookie, make no doubt.
