Driving wind and rain, and competition from television coverage of Real Madrid and Manchester United in the Champions League, did little to enhance the crowd.

But Butcher was disappointed with the 2,529 turnout for his side, who sit second in the Scottish Premier League and have scored 62 goals this season.

However, they have the second lowest average attendance (4,017) in the SPL, greater only than St Johnstone and less than their Highland rivals, top-flight debutants Ross County.

Butcher, who was annoyed his side had failed to see out a deserved victory after Borja Perez earned Killie a 1-1 draw in the final minute, said: "I honestly don't know how much more we can do.

"We played some of the best football of the season.

"I know it's difficult weather, but I don't know how much more we can do.

"Does this city deserve a football team like we've got? I don't know.

"We cannot do any more - second in the table, could have gone three points clear of our nearest rivals for second place with eight games to go before the split."
