McCall, who was last month handed a place in Gordon Strachan's backroom team with Scotland, has done a tremendous job since taking charge at Fir Park in 2010.

Motherwell are currently second in the Scottish Premier League and McCall is keen to carry on the good work.

He said in the Daily Record: "I would be surprised if next week it's not tied up. I can't see any problems.

"I'm ambitious and I want to be better but I want to be better here."

While talks over a new deal for McCall are progressing well, Motherwell are also interested in reaching an agreement to bring James McFadden back to the club.

McFadden, who spent time with Motherwell at the start of his career, is currently training with McCall's squad following his departure from Sunderland in January.

He has other options and assistant boss Kenny Black has previously expressed concerns about whether the club could afford him, but left-back Steven Hammell is hopeful a deal will be struck.

"Faddy has been in training with us and he's been excellent, still a top professional. If we could do something to bring him in, it would be a massive coup for the club," said Hammell.

"Faddy is still a big favourite of the fans and the signing would lift everyone because we are playing so well at the moment. He would be an excellent addition.

"He's got offers, there are teams on the phone to him every day but he's got family up here and I think he wants to be here for a bit."

ven if United were to sign CR7 & Messi to play upfront, the fact remains Fletcher and Cleverly are playing in midfield. That's where the problem is. Fletcher is too slow with an awful pass, while Cleverly is simply rubbish
