Marc McAusland: Solid partying since cup final success

The Paisley club's Scottish Communities League Cup win was the first piece of major silverware to be delivered to Paisley since the likes of Frank McGarvie, Billy Abercromby and Tony Fitzpatrick claimed the Scottish Cup back in 1987.

But defender McAusland does not feel comfortable adding his name to the list of Saints greats just yet.

He said: "I've still got a wee bit to go before I can say I'm on the same level as guys like Tony 'Fitz' or Aber.

"I know the likes of Tony really well so when I see him next I'll give him a cuddle. I'm sure he will have enjoyed the last few days.

"Guys like him are legends but and it's great to think we are in the same company as those players who have won trophies with St Mirren."

The 3-2 win over Hearts at Hampden sparked a huge two-day party in Paisley and McAusland was right at the centre of the action.

"I had to call it a day on Monday night quite early because I was too drunk," he said with a laugh. "My voice is going and my body is sore - I feel like I've been hit by a bus.

"It was some party. The whole of Paisley was bouncing. It's been the best couple of days of my footballing career. I'll never forget it. The fans made it. They were tremendous."
