McCoist quiet on Ibrox crisis

Ally McCoist has again fielded questions on the financial state of Rangers, insisting on-field matters are the only topics he will discuss.

Speaking at a Murray Park media briefing ahead of Sunday's Scottish Cup tie against Albion Rovers, McCoist refused to be drawn on the war of words between former director Dave King and the current Ibrox board.

King has called on fans to withhold season-ticket money, a move which infuriated Rangers chairman David Somers, who accused the prospective investor of 'attempting to destabilise the club'.

The South Africa-based businessman has now agreed to meet Somers, and other members of the Rangers board, but when asked how he felt the showdown talks would go, McCoist stuck to his line of recent weeks with a 'football matters only' stance.

"I don't have to pay attention to that. What I pay attention to at the moment is the football team," he said. "Matches, games, results... that's my job as a football manager.

"Everything else will look after itself. I'm not saying it's secondary but everything else will look after itself.

"Our boys have been doing particularly well in terms of results and what an opportunity we have for a great game on Sunday to get to a semi-final."

When pushed on the imminent arrival of King in Scotland, he replied: "I think Dave King said 'Ally McCoist was doing the right thing by actually talking about the football'.

"So is the chief executive and the board. So if all parties are quite happy with me talking about the football, which indeed I am, I think I will continue to talk about the football.

"The last two years have been what they've been. I don't get frustrated, I just have a job to do and we have a massive, massive game on Sunday which we are looking forward to. It will give us an opportunity to continue the season.

"But if you are looking for potential stumbling blocks they are certainly there and we will be guarded against that. There will be no level of complacency from us at all.

"This game is too important for the team, the club, the fans, and we will not allow that."

I

think all those names linked to United exits make sense. Kagawa has never really looked like hitting the form he had at Dortmund and Fellaini is radioactive after last season (even though I think he's been unfairly singled out for criticism). Nani and Anderson have had more than their fair share of chances so they are done, and Hernandez deserves better than warming a bench.
