Mario Beretta: Unveiled as new Cesena boss

Beretta was unveiled on Wednesday as the new boss following the dismissal of Daniele Arrigoni after a run of poor results.

Cesena lost 3-1 to AC Milan at the weekend to remain rooted to the foot of the table on 16 points from 23 matches.

They have won just four games and lie seven points adrift of safety.

However, the former Siena tactician, who has been given a contract that runs until the end of the term, believes he can stop the rot.

"The situation is difficult, otherwise they wouldn't have called me," Beretta said. "But there is still time to avoid relegation.

"We will have to race against time and get points immediately.

"I believe it's possible.

"I know this team and it has quality but it needs to bring that out.

"I am also convinced that this side has the right characteristics to defend its Serie A status."

Beretta, who inherits a side which has mustered just one point from its last five games, added: "We have a big mountain to climb.

"There's plenty of hurdles on our path but we can do it.

"All I want from my team is intensity and determination in every game."

Beretta, who has been out of a job since being sacked by Brescia in January 2011, is Cesena's third coach of the season.

The 52-year-old's first game in charge will be at former club Chievo on Sunday.

t's a bit sad to see Bosingwa leaving after he finally seemed to show some defensive ability when moved to centre back against Barca, but at least we'll be forced to pick up some sort of right fullback as cover. His new haircut seemed to decrease the prominence of the monobrow too.
