The Azzurri were forced to abandon a warm-up game against Luxembourg at the Stadio Ennio Tardini ahead of the European Championships as earthquakes struck northern Italy at the end of May.

Parma was one of the cities most badly affected - along with Modena and Ferrara - as two major earthquakes caused widespread damage and 26 deaths in the Emilia-Romagna region.
