Gian Piero Gasperini: Backed

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has confirmed Gian Piero Gasperini will remain in charge of the Rosaneri despite Sunday's calamitous defeat at Bologna.

The Sicilians had three men sent off at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara as Stefano Pioli's men triumphed 3-0, leaving Palermo just one point clear of the Serie A relegation zone.

Zamparini is notorious for his impatient approach to hiring and firing, dismissing Giuseppe Sannino after just three games of the season, but he insists Gasperini is in it for the long haul.

He told La Repubblica: "Is Gasperini at risk? No way, Gasperini will stay here with me for many years.

"We were playing really well until the first goal went in and we are missing some key players.

"It's not Gasperini's fault that we lost. The team is struggling because the players don't have the mentality for the fight.

"Yesterday was a strange day, the referee never really got involved in the first half, when I thought (Bologna midfielder Diego) Perez should have been sent off.

"The coach has asked for couple of wingers and we will sign them in January.

"It won't be easy but we're working hard."
