A review of the weekend's action in the Italian Serie A, including an AC Milan win over Juventus.

AC Milan picked up an important victory and did their city rivals Inter a favour by beating Juventus 1-0 at the San Siro.

A Robinho penalty in the 31st minute decided the game in the Rossoneri's favour as Juve were beaten for only the second time this season.

Juve could have gone seven points clear with a win, but remain just four ahead of Fiorentina in second and Inter in third.

Torino and Fiorentina shared four goals in an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday afternoon.

Alessio Cerci put the home side in front in the 40th minute and Gonzalo Rodriguez responded from the penalty spot in the 74th minute.

Valter Birsa's first goal for Torino restored their lead two minutes later, but Mounir El Hamdaoui struck five minutes from time to snatch a point for the Viola.

Andrea Bertolacci's solitary strike saw Genoa end a run of six straight Serie A defeats with a 1-0 victory at Atalanta on Sunday, as the Rossoblu survived Emiliano Moretti's late dismissal.

Luigi Del Neri had overseen five losses since replacing Luigi De Canio in October but Bertolacci finally broke the new coach's duck to lift Genoa out of the bottom three.

Goalkeeper Sebastien Frey had to be at his best as Atalanta poured forward in search of an equaliser, with his task made all the more difficult when Moretti saw red four minutes from time.

Cristiano Bergodi got a sense of the task he faces at Pescara after a 1-0 defeat at home to Roma saw his side slip to the bottom of the table.

Pescara turned to their former defender after Giovanni Stroppa resigned in the wake of a 1-0 defeat at Siena, a result that saw them drop into the bottom three.

And another 1-0 loss following a goal from Mattia Destro, coupled with Siena's 0-0 draw at Chievo, means Pescara prop up the table on goal difference.

Andrea Poli's goal moved Sampdoria further clear of the relegation zone and condemned Bologna to a seventh defeat in eight away games as they claimed a 1-0 win.

Poli netted two thirds of the way through this contest as Bologna paid dearly for an early red card to defender Archimede Morleo.

Morleo was dismissed just five minutes into the game for a professional foul on the home side's Argentinian striker Mauro Icardi.

Mamadou Samassa was sent off at the death as Chievo and Siena shared a dire goalless draw that did precious little to improve either side's prospects.

The Flying Donkeys displayed more of the toothless football that has seen them pick up just two points from four games, with strikers Alberto Paloschi and Sergio Pellissier conspiring to waste a host of promising chances.

Serse Cosmi's Bianconeri were equally profligate but the point lifts them to 18th place and within touching distance of safety after they started the season with a six-point deduction for match-fixing.

On Saturday night, Palermo took the honours in the first Sicilian derby of the season with a convincing 3-1 win over Catania at the Stadio Renzo Barbera.

Fabrizio Miccoli put the Rosaneri in front after 10 minutes before two goals from Josip Ilicic put them in command.

Francesco Lodi pulled one back for Catania with 20 minutes remaining, but the points were never in any danger as Palermo pulled themselves away from the bottom three with a much-needed victory.

terling needs to be told though that upon entering the Arsenal squad he will re-enact the final scene from Highlander where he will be thrown around a warehouse by cartoon dragons and then be a mere mortal that will only ever spend three to four weeks a season playing football and the rest on the physio's bed. There can be only one.....player available at The Emirates.

he game changed in our favour when Carrick came on. We were able to play further up the pitch due to having a player who can give and go with the ball and keep possession. Yet barkley made some runs and Townsend scored a good goal but carrick's inclusion and chiellini's withdrawal made the biggest difference to the flow of the game

o, you've not silenced anyone Andros, i'm afraid. We know you can score a great goal, and it's really handy to have your direct running and willingness to shoot on the bench. But until you can do the other things expected of a winger (beat the man, put a decent cross in, stay wide etc) then you can't expect more than a regular cameo. Wonderful goal though, what a hit! No wonder Buffon wanted the shirt.
