Director of football Walter Sabatini has said Roma are considering Zdenek Zeman's future as head coach after revealing his considerable dissatisfaction with recent results.

The well-travelled Czech, 65, returned to the Stadio Olimpico to a rapturous reception in June, with his uncompromising brand of attacking football swiftly guiding Roma into contention for a Champions League place going into the new year.

Zeman's preferred style is not without its weaknesses, though, and the Giallorossi's recent failure to keep a clean sheet has seen them slip to eighth in the Serie A table on the back of a run of four games without a win.

And Sabatini felt compelled to finally speak out after watching Roma scramble to salvage a 3-3 draw at struggling Bologna on Sunday.

"When we decided to appoint Zeman at Roma we were all elated, thinking that he could get the lads playing an arrogant and powerful style of football," Sabatini told Gazzetta.it.

"He succeeded in doing that. He has also realised some of the potential in our youngsters, launching several careers.

"That will be the legacy he leaves us with. I'm not worried about what he's done in that respect but I do have to consider other things.

"When we look at the current situation there is little to be happy about and we need to stop and reflect on whether we missed something when we put the current set-up together.

"This is a period of contemplation that includes considering changing the coach, which would be a marginal decision, it has to be said.

"The group of lads we have here is strong in terms of professionalism and ethics, but it is clear there are a few weaknesses."

Roma welcome Cagliari to the capital city on Friday night but Sabatini admitted he is unlikely to have made a decision on Zeman's future before the game.

"The deliberations will continue beyond Friday," he added. "And I will not respond to any questions about whether we will have a different coach against Cagliari."

I

think all those names linked to United exits make sense. Kagawa has never really looked like hitting the form he had at Dortmund and Fellaini is radioactive after last season (even though I think he's been unfairly singled out for criticism). Nani and Anderson have had more than their fair share of chances so they are done, and Hernandez deserves better than warming a bench.
